Wednesday Night Faith

Formation

EPHPHATHA—Be Opened

After he took him aside, away from the crowd, Jesus put his fingers into the man’s ears. Then he spit and touched the man’s tongue. He looked up to heaven and with a deep sigh said to him, “Ephphatha!” (which means “Be opened!”). At this, the man’s ears were opened, his tongue was loosened, and he began to speak plainly. Mark 7: 33-35

Wednesday nights at Oak Knoll are nights of faith formation for everyone — every week we spend time with all ages together and we also take time in age-specific learning groups. In everything we do, we try to shape our lives so that we can be disciples and followers of Jesus.

On Wednesday evenings these groups gather as part of our Ephphatha fellowship:

Our 4th, 5th and 6th graders discover what it means to be a disciple following Jesus with a great group of investigators called the Scoop Troup. Through bible stories and current events, our children will find out why following Jesus is as important today as it was two thousand years ago.
·
Our 7th, 8th and 9th graders (our confirmation students) serve our neighbors through study and hands on learning -- they partner with the Our Saviour’s program to begin serving their neighbors in need.

Our High School youth gather for fellowship, for fun, and for service on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month.

Adults Throughout the Ephphatha year our adults will have the opportunity to participate in four different bible study series. Each series will last 5 – 6 weeks and will be led by one of our pastors. Adults may choose to attend any or all of these series. The first series will start on October 7 and will be led by Pastor Paul. This bible study will consider one of the Letters of St. Paul and how it relates to our life as a community of faith. The remaining three studies will occur in the January through April timeframe. Check the newsletter and bulletin for more details.

 Our Wednesday Evening Schedule

6:30 - 8:00       Learning time with learning opportunities for all ages.

8:00-9:00         High School Youth gather for study, fellowship and service.

During Advent and Lent we adjust the schedule so that the education time ends at 7:30 for seasonal worship.

Nursery  is available from 6:30 - 8:00 for children from infants to 3rd grade.

As people of God we gather to “devote ourselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” Acts 2:42.

Ephphatha is an important part of our congregational life. We open ourselves up to the presence and power of God through study of the bible, learning of our faith tradition, and building relationships with other disciples of Jesus Christ. Be opened. Join us and bring your friends.
